I recently re-watched the movie "Closer." This song is still echoing within me.

I am loving this sound.

I know I'm lame these days, but Kaki King ain't.

I want to re-make this video with my own photos.

I heard a fascinating interview on NPR today with a neurological researcher named Jill Bolte Taylor whose book My Stroke of Insight came out in paperback today. This video is from a talk Taylor gave a year ago about what she experienced while having a stroke.

There are certain albums that are best enjoyed during a particular time of year. To listen to such albums in their "off-season" is to deprive yourself of the full album experience. R.E.M.'s Green album, for example, is best enjoyed in the spring, whereas Fables of the Reconstruction should be played in the fall. Talking Heads Speaking in Tongues or Jane's Addiction's Nothing's Shocking are best when played in the summer. This is not to say that these albums cannot be enjoyed "out of season" ---it's just that they're best when experienced "in season."

Autumn This is the perfect time of year, the perfect month even, to listen to Concrete Blonde's Bloodletting or Portishead's Dummy. Dummy is one of the best damn albums of the '90s if you ask me and it has a long season that goes from late October to early March.

What season should your favorite albums be played in?

Patti Smith

I am so utterly crushed that my schedule does not allow me to see Patti Smith at the Warfield in SF on Monday, Oct 20.

1. The thought of our next president being that Mc guy.

2. The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini

3. Remembering how I used to sing this song to my nephew Curtis when he was a baby:

A friend of mine in Buffalo wrote to me recently, lamenting Cobain's demise. I lamented back. Told him I haven't listened to any Nirvana since 1994. Then a few hours later I'm channel surfing and I stop on Nirvana's "Unplugged in New York." I keep it there. The Boyfriend hears this and asks me from the next room, "Do you still like Nirvana?" And......I can't answer that question with a simple "yes" or "no." I launch into a diatribe about Kurt, the spirit of this age, meat-eating orchids, absurdity and surrealism in art and half way into this I'm shaking and crying. That's not a question that can be answered with a simple yes or no.

Tori Amos singing Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit"
This haunts me.

I need a cute little white Havanese dog like this one to cheer me up. They're like $2000.00. My health insurance should pay for this.

Jorane

Have you heard the French-Canadian singer-cellist Jorane? This video clip of her performance with Bobby McFerrin has infected me and I'm not sure if I'm of this earth any longer...

Turn Your Speakers On for the viewing of this video, otherwise there's really no point.

I debated about whether I should post this here. It's a video made from still photographs my Dad and I took on our recent trip to the coast. These photos are set to ancient Georgian chants (the country, not the state). The video was made using a very lame "muvee" program that doesn't allow much artistic control. To make matters even worse, a lot of photo quality is lost by using youtube as a means for others to view this online. We also tried uploading it into google video, but the quality of the images were just as bad, if not worse. If anyone knows a better way to do this, please let me know.

My spiritual Father used to tell me that it is better to be blind rather than deaf, because music is the language of the soul, and music can take you higher than anything visual. For that reason, I'm posting this video. The music alone is worth it.

I have to say, this is pretty damn satisfying:
