You can always count on me to blurt out the most inappropriate things.

Like today, for example. I'm at a restaurant and I bump into a former co-worker who was fired for stealing from the company. "Hey, how ya doin'? Still a criminal?" I ask. He laughs nervously and glances at his date. "Well, good seeing you," I say and scamper back to my table where I proceed to die.

I'm thinking the appropriateness or inappropriateness of the comment should be calculated in direct proportion to the severity of his crime. Was it a couple of pencils and a pad of post-it notes, or the balance of the company's 401k plan?

And forgive me for quoting a Billy Joel song, but has it been long enough for "Someday we'll look back on this and it will all seem funny!" to factor in as well?
