I am so utterly crushed that my schedule does not allow me to see Patti Smith at the Warfield in SF on Monday, Oct 20.

Dream of Life

My daughter is down from Seattle and she told me her and two of her friends saw Dream of Life at the film fest this past summer. One in her group was a big-time full-fledged Patti Smith fan and was excited as hell to get tickets to see the pre-release of the film.

They were all very disappointed.

She said the movie lost it's "curve" and slipped into politics and never returned to finish the movie. The movie started out about her and her music, her songs, her heartaches, her concerts and built to a bit of a crescendo and then departed the theme to get political and then just dropped. Ended with a thud.

The curve never glided back down. It was like there was no ending, or the producer ran out of time/money/energy to finish it so he took the lazy way out.

Anyway, when you go see it, let me know what you think. I'm going to watch for it to be shown closer to home but in the meantime, I'm pumped beyond pumped to see her live. Just 10 more days!

Hmmmm....well, that kind-of sucks....not that it will stop me from seeing it, but I am going to wait, too. There's a tiny chance it might come to the alt cinema here....if not I'll catch it on dvd.
