create_destinyI wish I could have the memory of every Jim Carey movie I ever saw erased from my mind, except this one.
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is a bit boggling to say the least but in spite of Jim Carey being in it, I highly recommend it. (Billy Crudup or somebody a little less known would have been more refreshing, not to mention easier on the eyes).
Kate Winslet was amazing. I wish her role as Clementine had been more developed.
I have lots more to say about this film but I don't want to ruin it for those who haven't seen it. If you've already seen it....
There are a lot of questions I left the theater with....
How many times did Joel and Clementine meet, have a relationship, break-up and have the memory of their relationship erased?
What was up with all those fleeting images that made me think Clementine was going to die (presumably from some type of car wreck)?
In the beginning of the movie, Joel (Jim Carey) wakes up, eventually gets dressed, goes outside, and as he's walking down the sidewalk he says to himself, "Maybe I'll get back together with Nicole. She was nice."
''NICE'"???!???!??
We'll never know. I assume that the erasure of the memory of Clementine was 100% effective...or was it?
I thought the film dragged on needlessly about two thirds of the way through. The viewer really didn't need THAT much non-revealing replay of happier times between Joel and Clementine, unless these happier times developed their characters more, which it didn't.
I'm thinking here about the scenes where Joel and Clementine are walking along the beach at night and Clementine goes giddily into that beach house and starts nosing around. I can see why these scenes weren't cut because the special effects were pretty cool--the beach house getting all sandy on the inside and then collapsing...but I was gettin' antsy by this time and nothing new was being revealed, just more of the same.
I don't know. This film needs to be seen more than once...those tricky, capitalist bastards!
In other news, vital life energy is being sucked out of me by three of my closest girlfriends who can't stop telling me how horrible their boyfriends/husbands/ex-husbands are. I'm really sorry guys but I'm PMSing and I just need to put you on pause right now before I kill ya.
REASONS WHY I CAN'T GET MY HOMEWORK DONE:
1. I'm sick of American Literature (not really, I just said that because I feel bitchy).
2. I have a headache.
3. My apartment is a mess.
4. I really should do the dishes.
5. I can't stop peeking into a book of selected interviews with Allen Ginsburg I got as a gift for my dad.
6. I need to spend some quality time with my cats.
7. I need to update my journal.
8. I need some donuts in order to focus.
9. My stomach hurts.
10. I should really shave my legs one of these days...
