Feather Falls Trail Sign

This eight-mile round-trip hike kicks my ass every time. Today was no exception. I'm thankful to be alive and in one piece.

I'm not sure how it's possible for that trail to be uphill both ways, but it was.

Those last two miles nearly killed me. Even the crackmonkey dog is wore out.

That last photo is - stunning!

Eight mile hikes always kick my ass, but at elevation, I can't do it. Thanks for the vicarious ride. :)

The pic of the Falls was cut short because the rest of it was in shadow. :(

Nice shots, you have the gift of "seeing" and capturing the beauty that you see.

So beautiful! Don't you love the smell of ponderosa bark? I think it smells like vanilla.

The Eucalyptus trees were over-powering all other smells.

Thanks for the wonderful pictures. I especially loved the third picture. It feels like something other than the sun is up there waiting. I am going to have to go there the next time I head to Cali.

I have yet to make that trip. Bug and I started to once (well, we were s'posed to be working, soliciting ads for The Beak, so we were dressed nice and somehow ended up on a muddy trail....that's just how we be!) But, oh, I don't know, a couple hundred yards into the trail a 6"-8" banana slug crossed our path. Slowly. But Bug is deathly, gaggingly afraid of slugs period, let alone one that's big enough to do some damage. So, yeah, we didn't make it far :)

a slug nearly killed me on that hike, when I stepped on it while going down a steep part of the trail.

slugs are suprisingly slippery.

Ew. Ew .Ew. Ew. Ew.
I'm not surprised, they leave a trail of slime after all :)

And if Bug reads this slug thread, she may well vomit!

many years ago when I lived in a crappy little house here in Chico, I got up in the middle of the night for some reason, walked into my kitchen and stepped on a giant slug that somehow was crawling across the kitchen floor. Barefoot.

They are squishy.

Once again I am jealous of the beautiful scenery you have in your "backyard". I am glad you two got out and enjoyed the Thanksgivings day. Sorry to hear about the slippery slug, I heard that slugs out west are big and dangerous!

The slugs are usually not dangerous to a full grown adult.

Every year though, around spring, when the slugs come out of hibernation, there is a rash of dog and cat disappearances.

Looks pretty.

But where, oh where, do you fall asleep after turkey consumption? Roll over on that cliff edge and that could be bad.

When we got home, we had a frozen pizza for dinner. And we were crippled for the next two days!
