Hung out on Saturday with my friend dietcokehead and her 5 mo. old twins.

I'm gonna stick to my dad's advise about friends going through a divorce: "Never talk to Xs about Xs. Talk about literature, music, etc."

I'm seriously trying to decide what to do about school this fall. I'm signed up for two classes but I was sooo unmotivated last semester that I barely made it through.

My motivation for "official" higher-learning seems to be evaporating, but I'm afraid if I stop, I'll feel crappy about my life and get depressed since I won't have any concrete goals for which I am striving.

Your dad's advice is very good. My ex and I had a lot of friends together. It was a natural tendancy for the friends to sort of pick a side. But there were also friends that remained neutral. As the divorcee, I did my very best not to bash my ex with any of my friends, but if I started to, my good friends would give me my space to do it, but never comment. They would then change the subject or let me know that they weren't comfortable with the topic. Since you are remaining friends with "both sides" you may need to actively change the topic from time to time. It's very sticky, but I know I appreciated my friends immeasureably (family too) throughout the whole process. Good luck.

That is good advice.

I have a couple of buddies I've known for 10+ years. One of them had a girlfriend that he had been dating for a couple of years. She was disliked by most of his male buddies because of her attitude towards us. They break up. It's loud and sort of ugly. A few days later the other friend I've known forever tells the break up guy how he feels about his ex-GF. He held nothing back, really laid into her. The break up lasted about 2 months, then they got back together and have now been married for several years and have a kid. The buddy with the big mouth avoids them both, for the most part.

That seems like good advice about the friends going through a divorce.

As for school, time off might not be a bad thing. I wish I had taken some time off before going to grad school. I think the time off would have helped me see things better. But since I didn't do that, I went on ahead to grad school and just wasn't as committed to it as I should have been. So, after two quarters I dropped out. I just didn't feel like it was worth it if I wasn't putting forth my best effort. That and many other things. I guess it all depends on why you're going to school though.

If you're really dreading school already, I think you should probably take time off, or maybe just take a class you're actually excited about. That way you're not completely out of touch with school, but it's not dreadfully boring to go. But if you're dreading it in July, do you really think you'll get pumped up about it two months from now?

Help me. I have ben trying to call my daughter in Chico CA, for the past several days and I don't get an answer. I will try again on Tuesday evening shortly after nine PM Fort Wayne time. If you see her let her know.
Regarding school. Take a semester off, write a novella. A novella is a long short story not to exceed 84 pages or a short novel not less that 83 pages. Now you may wonder what happened to the one page. That is the subject of the novella: the missing page. What was on it, how did it affect the life of the character, did it change the way the writer views the world. What about the chair.
